Les Lucioles is designed for children aged 4 to 5 years old in September. In this class, young dancers will have the opportunity to explore and improve their dance skills, including elements of folkloric and classical dance. The curriculum is based on the Canadian-French dance program, Level 1, developed by the Association la Girandole. The Lucioles classes focus on developing four important aspects of dance: activities, body awareness and control, spatial awareness, and dynamics, as well as fostering positive social interactions and relationships.Similar to the Kangaroo classes, the Lucioles classes are offered as part of the full-season program. However, they are also available in half-sessions, running from September to December, which includes a Christmas show, and from January to April, culminating in an annual performance. This flexibility in scheduling is intended to better accommodate the needs of families and their preferences.

Dress code

  • Leotard or t-shirt with tights or leggings, skirt or dance shorts

  • T-shirt, sport pants or leggings, dance shorts

  • Black socks or ballet shoes

  • New policy for La Girandole's box of used shoes (please see the policy handbook)

Age Policy

  • The minimum age requirement is determined based on the child's age as of September 1st. However, it is possible for a teacher to recommend a dancer to move up or down a course level depending on their technical ability and/or experience. The placement week will take place during the first week of classes in September.

  • Non-parented classes: We encourage parents interested in enrolling their child in non-parented classes to consider whether the child is ready for such a class. Dancers enrolled in these classes should be able to participate in group activities independently, follow instructions, and navigate social spaces with confidence. Additionally, children should be capable of using the restroom independently, as teachers will not be able to assist them during the class. If you have any doubts, we encourage you to discuss them with us before registration or consider trying a parented class.

Language Policy

  • All dance classes are conducted in French. Therefore, registered dancers must have a good understanding of French in order to comply with the Association's mandate and speak in French at all times. La Girandole reserves the right to withdraw any dancer who does not meet this criterion adequately.
